Why record numbers are leaving the East Coast for a better lifestyle
A record number of Australian’s are ditching the big cities in search of a better lifestyle and more affordable housing. One of the places people are heading to is Perth, with a booming economy and many occupations in high demand providing fantastic career opportunities PLUS plenty of time to play too!
So what makes PERTH such a great place to relocate to?
For starters – the climate. Queensland may be nicknamed the sunshine state but in fact Perth has more hours of sunshine than any other Australian capital city. This means there is more time to get outdoors and do the things you love.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, WA is just behind the ACT when it comes to the highest salaries in the country. And if you’re looking to have more disposable income to spend on the things you choose, WA’s median house prices are the lowest in the country.
While WA is renowned for its strong mining exports, it’s not the only industry screaming out for people. Occupations within the allied health sector are in high demand, especially if you are an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist.
Madeline Davey is someone who decided to make the move to Western Australia after completing her degree in Brisbane and working as a Speech Pathologist in central Queensland. She was keen to follow a career in the disability sector and was looking for a place where she could also pursue her hobbies such as rock climbing, mountain biking and hanging out at the beach. Perth ticked all the boxes.
“I did a video interview and got the job. They were so flexible and pushed back my start date by six weeks to give me time to get organised. I drove across the country and didn’t know anyone in Perth. That didn’t matter as I immediately clicked with another Speechie, Larissa and felt part of the family. That was seven years ago now” shares Madeline, Team Leader and Senior Speech Pathologist at Therapy Focus reflecting on her journey.
Madeline is an outdoor enthusiast and makes the most of the flexible working arrangements Therapy Focus offers. She regularly has three-day weekends to do one of her many hobbies and enjoy the lifestyle Perth has to offer, but she hasn’t had to stall her career either. Since joining Therapy Focus Maddie has been able to follow her interests at work with a diverse caseload and progress her career moving into a management role.
Therapy Focus is one of WA’s largest disability service providers employing around 350 staff including Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. They pride themselves on a positive work culture that emphasises supporting one another to ensure everyone’s journey is extraordinary. If you are considering a move to Perth we can arrange an online interview so you have peace of mind knowing you have a secure job when you arrive.
