Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan

By Tessa Harding

Brand Engagement Manager

Therapy Focus is proud to present its inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for 2021-22.

The Plan represents our commitment to recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia, and outlines the actions we will take over the next 12 months to support the reconciliation movement.

The Plan and associated resources were developed by Therapy Focus’ RAP  Committee, which comprises a number of staff from across the organisation and First Nations stakeholders and representatives. Support and guidance was also provided by Reconciliation Australia and Reconciliation WA.

Plans for the launch of our Reflect RAP during NAIDOC Week were disrupted by COVID-19 lockdowns, but Therapy Focus staff still celebrated the launch with a video message from Reconciliation WA CEO, Jody Nunn and Therapy Focus CEO Angelena Fixter. You can watch their message below:

“To really change for the next generation, we need to step up and be brave.”
– Reconciliation WA CEO, Jody Nunn

Our Vision for Reconciliation

Therapy Focus embraces the cultures and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to truth-telling as we work toward understanding and healing; recognising that we are stronger together.

We are dedicated to providing therapy services that are inclusive of all people, their cultures and traditions, and reflective of the needs of the communities that we serve. By combining our diverse knowledge, skills and experiences, we can flourish.

Yarning with RAP Committee Advisor, Joan Foley.

Joan Foley is a proud Nyarla woman, nurse and mother to three sons and a foster daughter. She is a member of the Ministerial Council on Disability and an advisor to Therapy Focus’ RAP Committee.

We sat down with Joan for a yarn about her experience as a well-travelled nurse, how she came to be “gifted” a daughter, and what reconciliation means to her.

For more information about Therapy Focus’ Reflect RAP, contact our RAP Committee Chair on 1300 135 373 or email [email protected].

Join our RAP Committee

We’re inviting Therapy Focus customers and friends who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander to join our RAP Committee and provide advice and support for our reconciliation journey. Contact us for more information or to express an interest in joining.
