CEO Update: Winter 2024

June marks the start of the noongar season Makuru, which brings the first heavy rains and is considered a season of fertility. You might notice an influx of the ‘Mali’ or Black Swan – our very own WA emblem – as they prepare to nest and breed.

June also marks the end of the financial year and another busy period for the team here at Therapy Focus. We recently participated in an audit conducted by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to assess our aged care services against the Quality Standards. This was a first for Therapy Focus and I’m proud to report that we have met the requirements of the audit with the assessment report detailing consistently positive feedback from customers. This is a fantastic result and I thank the team for their efforts in preparing for the audit.

Continuing with the positive news, I’d like to congratulate Regional Services Coordinator, Richard Murdoch, and Senior Speech Pathologist, Kelly Scott, whose nominations in this year’s WA Disability Support Awards were acknowledged at an awards ceremony in May. Kelly was also selected as one of three finalists in the category of ‘Innovation in Service Delivery’ for her efforts in developing our Gaming Therapy Program. You can read more about the event and achievements of our nominees here.

In closing, I wish to thank the 56 customers and contacts who submitted nominations for our 2024 People’s Choice Award. These nominations go a long way in ensuring our staff are recognised for their hard work and dedication to improving lives through therapy excellence. Our Customer Reference Group is currently reviewing nominations to select three finalists and a winner, which will be announced at an all-staff awards ceremony in July.

Keep safe, warm and healthy this winter, and on behalf of the Therapy Focus team, enjoy the upcoming school holidays!
