Adam speaking at 2024 World Down Syndrome Congress

Adam is a 23-year-old young man with Down Syndrome who has been connected with Down Syndrome Australia since birth. He’s a passionate advocate and an active member of his community, always looking for ways to create positive change.

Stepping onto the world stage

Last year, Adam achieved an extraordinary milestone—being invited to deliver a public speech at the World Down Syndrome Congress in Brisbane. Speaking in front of over 100 people from across the globe, Adam shared his insights on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It was a moment of pride and celebration for everyone who knows Adam, and a reflection of his dedication and hard work.

This achievement was made possible through his commitment to regular therapy sessions with his Speech Pathologist, Steph. Together, they focused on building key communication skills – working on narrative structure, grammar, vocabulary, and important speech elements like articulation, pacing, and volume. These sessions helped Adam build the confidence and clarity needed to speak on a national stage.

But Adam didn’t stop there.

Growing his voice and impact

He currently works as a Digital Champion for Down Syndrome Western Australia, where he is learning about online safety and empowering others with this essential knowledge. He’s also an active member of the Down Syndrome Western Australia Advocacy Network, playing a key role in ensuring that the Down Syndrome WA Board understands what truly matters to people with Down Syndrome.

Most recently, Adam was invited to speak at the Peel Outreach opening of Down Syndrome WA’s new Mandurah Branch. He spoke about his involvement in the community, his advocacy efforts, and the importance of connection. His thoughtful and inspiring words left a strong impression and even led to an exciting opportunity. Adam was offered an interview at a well-known local facility – a rewarding and exciting experience.

Let’s congratulate Adam on his nomination to receive a Certificate of Appreciation at the upcoming Volunteer VIP Function hosted by the Shire of Murray, in recognition of his contributions to the local community!

We are beyond proud of Adam and all that he continues to accomplish. His kind, fun, and determined nature makes him a joy to support, and we’re thrilled to see him continue to reach his goals.

Congratulations, Adam—keep being amazing!
