The Curtin University Autism Research Group, in partnership with Therapy Focus, are looking for adolescents and young adults aged 17 to 24 years old who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (High Functioning Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, PDD-NOS) to evaluate a 6 month autism-specific adult transition program called the TRANSITION© Program.

The TRANSITION© Program consists of 8 group workshops. Each participant will be paired with a therapist, providing support as they work towards their goals.

The aim of the project is to enable better support and empowerment for people on the autism spectrum to improve outcomes in their transition to adulthood.

What does this study involve?

Participants will be required to attend a screening session held at Curtin University to determine eligibility for the program (1.5 hours). Participants who are eligible will complete the first evaluation, which will involve questionnaires relating to adult transition outcomes (2-3 hours).

Eligible participants will be randomly allocated to the TRANSITION© Program or the ‘no intervention’ group. The TRANSITION© Program will run for six months with group sessions held at either Therapy Focus Bentley or Therapy Focus Mirrabooka. Participants allocated to the ‘no intervention group’ will take part in a shorter version of the TRANSITION© Program.

Evaluation sessions will be held at Curtin University twice throughout the study. Participants will also be invited to take part in a focus group or an interview to provide feedback about the TRANSITION© Program.
