Bladder and Bowel Health Australia joins Therapy Focus

Bladder and Bowel Health Australia Inc was acquired by Therapy Focus Ltd on 3 October 2019.

Bladder and Bowel Health Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that provides home and community services to seniors with continence issues. This includes assessment, intervention and liaison with medical professionals for the management of continence conditions, as well as education and training for healthcare workers.

Like many small organisations within the aged care and disability sectors, Bladder and Bowel Health Australia experienced financial constraints as a result of recent reforms, and sought to restructure operations. The organisation approached Therapy Focus following a successful collaboration that saw the development and initial delivery of a state-wide continence service for children with disability. This service, known as PEBBLES, has now grown and expanded services to adults with disability and is offered as part of Therapy Focus’ suite of services.

Bladder and Bowel Health Australia is a preferred provider for over a dozen Home Care Package providers in WA and Therapy Focus intends to continue this work, in addition to all other services delivered by Bladder and Bowel Health Australia. The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) contract that Bladder and Bowel Health Australia has operated under has been transferred to Therapy Focus effective from 1 October 2019, and continence services for seniors will continue to be delivered by the experienced staff from Bladder and Bowel Health Australia.

Therapy Focus Executive Manager, Samantha Berglin said that the bringing together of the two organisations will increase access to community-based continence services in Western Australia.

“Therapy Focus has a networked team of over 280 allied health professionals with extensive knowledge and experience,” Samantha said.

The acquisition of Bladder and Bowel Health Australia not only extends that network and knowledge, it also enables us to expand our service reach to provide comprehensive, high quality services across the lifespan.

Bladder and Bowel Health Australia is now operating from Therapy Focus’ Central office in Bentley. Therapy Focus’ existing services will not be impacted by the acquisition and will continue uninterrupted.
