Food Play and Food Scientist Groups
*Times for this group are TBC
Let's play with food!
The Food Play and Food Scientist groups use the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach to feeding. It is a nationally and internationally recognized specialized feeding intervention that has 30 years of evidence-based development. The program is designed to help all children develop a healthy and enjoyable, lifelong relationship with food.
Appropriate placement in either the Food Scientist or Food Play groups is based on a child’s age as well as cognitive level.
Food Play (3-5 years old)
This Food Play group is a specialized feeding intervention that focuses on play-based interventions by using real food items to address problems with feeding and mealtimes. The SOS Approach uses gradual desensitization to slowly introduce new foods in a structured hierarchy. It is a fun way to work on eating and peer skills!
Food Scientist (6-11 years old)
The Food Scientist approach to developing eating competencies uses the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach to feeding. The program is designed to allow a systematic approach to exploring the properties of foods in order to break down established negative food beliefs. It is a fun way to work on eating and peer skills!
Note: sessions run for approximately 90 minutes with parents encouraged to attend the last 15 minutes of each session for an education portion to support mealtimes at home.
It is highly recommended that participants attend all four sessions over the two weeks to gain maximum benefit from the program. It is intended to run this program periodically in the future.
