The Blue Door rocks the the Civic Hotel with their debut performance

Therapy Focus clients and siblings rock the Civic Hotel in Inglewood on Sunday with their debut performance for the 'Music Rocks the Civic'

Formed with support from Therapy Focus’ Inclusion and Participation Program, the band of fifteen Therapy Focus clients and their siblings have spent the last few months learning their instruments, choosing songs and rehearsing their performance.

The band will be performing their chosen song ‘Beat It’, by Michael Jackson, as part of a line-up of Perth School bands, to an audience of more than 300 people.

The Blue Door is the only band performing at the concert whose members include children with disabilities. The group of 15 children are very excited to be making their debut performance and are delighted to be a part of the Australia Rocks event.

“The Inclusion and Participation Team at Therapy Focus recognised the need for a recreational group with a focus on music. Many Therapy Focus clients really enjoy music and were thrilled at the prospect of joining a real band”, said Shane Orton, Inclusion and Participation Program Manager at Therapy Focus.

“We were overwhelmed by the support of interested parents and the wider community. These kids have worked so hard for this performance and would really appreciate the support of a great crowd when they ‘rock on’ this Sunday.”

The school bands session commences at 1.30pm, with doors opening at 1:00pm. All attendees are encouraged to wear their wildest rock outfits and paint their faces in support of the event.

Therapy Focus’ Inclusion and Participation Program is an initiative aimed at providing information and support to families of children with a disability, helping them to be better included in community activities and groups.

Music Rocks Australia aims to help children and teenagers through the use of music to empower them and make a difference in the social and personal development. ‘Music Rocks the Civic’ is an annual event by Music Rocks Australia Ensemble Program, which supports young musicians across West Australia.
