GIVE Program FAQ
What is the Grant for Inclusion, Value and Equality (GIVE) Program?
Therapy Focus’s Grants for Inclusion, Value and Equality (GIVE) Program provides funding assistance to support independence, participation and social inclusion of people with disabilities and their families. The charitable program replaced Therapy Focus’ previous charitable gift fund, the Help a Child Grow (HaCG) Fund, in 2015.
How does the program work?
GIVE Program funding rounds are held quarterly (4 times per year) with funding packages of $500, $1000, $1500 and $5000 available. Each round will contain a varying number of packages depending on the funding available. For example, one round may include:
2 x $5,000 packages
2 x $2,000 packages
3 x $1,000 packages
4 x $500 packages
How will I know when funding rounds are being held?
Funding round dates are published on the Therapy Focus website at www.therapyfocus.org.au/give/apply.
The number of packages available in each round will also be advertised in the Therapy Focus e-newsletter and via social media. If you do not have access to the internet you can speak with your therapist, who can advise dates and further information as required.
Who can apply?
Therapy Focus clients, their parents, carers, family members, teachers, support workers and therapists can apply to the GIVE Program
Is there eligibility criteria?
Yes. To be deemed eligible an application must:
- Benefit a Therapy Focus client (active or waitlisted), their parent or carer
- Demonstrate that the requested item(s) will support independence, participation and/or social inclusion of the Therapy Focus client and/or their family
What items can I apply for?
Grant packages can be used to purchase items such as equipment, communication devices, sporting and recreational activities, home and garden modifications, vehicle modifications, respite and memberships.
How do I apply?
Applications are available from the Therapy Focus website at www.therapyfocus.org.au/give/apply.
If you would like an application mailed to you, contact our Administration Team on 1300 135 373.
Are there any items I can’t apply for?
There are some items that are not eligible for GIVE Program funding. This includes:
Funding will be only be provided for the standard/basic model of tablets, laptops and desktop computers as fitting the need identified within the application. If a more advanced model is required, then the application will need to outline rationale as to why. For example, applications will be accepted for the iPad Air 2, but not the iPad Pro models. Applicants who wish to purchase the iPad Pro can contribute the cost difference between the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro, should their application be successful. The same principle applies to iPad Mini 2 and iPad Mini 4.
The list of items ineligible for GIVE Program funding is subject to change without warning, at the discretion of Therapy Focus’ GIVE Committee.
What does my quote need to include?
An itemised quote is required from the supplier detailing the total funds requested. For example, the number of lessons required with the hourly rate and a total cost. The quote must state GST and delivery costs (if required). Online (website) and formal quotes are both accepted. Prices sourced from websites are acceptable so long as the supplier’s contact information and website address is provided in the application.
What does a support letter from a therapist mean?
A support letter is required from a qualified therapist for items deemed to be clinical equipment. View the list of items requiring a support letter. A copy of the list can also be mailed on request. The support letter should outline the clinical rationale for the request and must be signed and dated. Support letters can only be written by Therapy Focus therapists. If you are a waitlisted client please contact Therapy Focus to discuss your options.
What if I only need a portion of the funding package?
Only the exact amount requested (as per the supplied quote) will be provided. Any remaining funds will be consolidated to ensure as many applications are fulfilled as possible. For example, if you only require $300 and apply for a $500 package (as the smallest denomination available), then the $200 excess will be put toward another application. If there are no other applications to allocate the funds to, then the excess funds will be held until the next funding round.
Can the funding go towards an item of greater value than the package?
Yes. For example, a client or their family may apply for a $5,000 package to assist with the cost vehicle/home modifications, which cost upwards of $20,000. However it is important to note that all GIVE Program funding must be spent and acquitted within 12 months of receiving a successful application letter.
Can I apply for a grant to cover the cost of an item I’ve already paid for?
Yes. The GIVE Committee will accept applications for retrospective funding up to 6 months. This means we will provide reimbursement for items clients and their families have purchased up to 6 months ago from the date of applying. The grant will only cover costs borne by the family and not by other grants or service organisations.
Who reviews my application?
All applications are reviewed by the GIVE Committee to determine whether they meet eligibility criteria. The Committee is made up of 4 Therapy Focus staff, including a therapist, an Equipment Funding Coordinator, a Communications Team representative and a support staff representative. Your personal details will only be viewed by those who require the information and no information will be shared with external sources without your consent.
What would make my application ineligible?
The GIVE Committee reserves the right to deem an application ineligible if:
- The recipient is not a Therapy Focus client (active or waitlisted), their parent or carer
- It does not demonstrate that the requested item(s) does not support independence, participation and/or social inclusion of a Therapy Focus client and/or their family.
An application may also be deemed ineligible for the following reasons:
- Application form is incomplete or not legible
- Quotes are invalid
- Therapist support letter is not provided or the clinical rationale is not sound
- Items requested are ineligible for funding
- Application is not received within stated funding round dates
- Requested items can be purchased through Government funding programs and initiatives (i.e. Community Aids and Equipment Program or National Disability Insurance Scheme)
How are successful applicants chosen?
If the total funding available in a round covers the total cost of eligible applications, then all eligible applications will be deemed successful and receive funding. If the total cost of eligible applications exceeds the total funding available, then applications will be chosen by way of a draw. For example; if there are 6 applications for a $500 package but only 4 packages are available in the round, then all 6 applicants will go into a draw and 4 will be drawn at random.
How do I know if my application has been successful / unsuccessful?
All applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application in writing within 2 weeks of a funding round closing. Successful applicants will also be contacted directly by a GIVE Committee member.
How long do I have to spend the funding?
Funding provided by the GIVE Program must be spent within 12 months from the date stated on the successful application letter. If funding is not spent within the 12 month timeframe then the funding will be returned to the GIVE Program.
How many times can I receive funding?
A recipient can only receive one funding package each financial year (July – June). For example, if a client receives a funding package in October 2016, then they cannot apply again until July 2017.
If my application is unsuccessful can I apply again?
Yes. Unsuccessful applicants can reapply to another funding round. Unsuccessful applications will not carry over to the next funding round automatically. For applications deemed ineligible, feedback as to why the application was ineligible must be addressed before re-application.
Where does the funding come from?
As a registered charity, all untied donations Therapy Focus are attributed to the GIVE Program. Additionally, Therapy Focus events and activities that have a fundraising component also contribute proceeds to the GIVE Program.
